Hot on the heels of Scream becoming a billion-dollar franchise, the parody series it kicked off has also achieved this phenomenal feat.
Following its third weekend box-office takings, the franchise’s sixth entry has carried the Scary Movie series over the billion-dollar mark.
This, despite the sixth film receiving a critical lashing and its box-office falling off rapidly in the second weekend.
As it stands, Scary Movie has grossed $201.9 million worldwide, becoming the third most successful in the series.
Against a $30 million budget, this makes the film a profitable entity, particularly when compared to 2013’s dud Scary Movie 5.
Given this return, it seems inevitable that the Wayans brothers will get to proceed with the sequel plans they have recently discussed.
What would be in store in a seventh Scary Movie? According to Marlon Wayans, the recent hits Backrooms and Obsession are in his sights to parody.
So, given it’s now a member of a very exclusive club for the horror genre, it’s safe to assume we’ll be seeing more Scary Movie content very soon.
