OceanVeil announced on its Twitter/X account that it has begun streaming the Chainsmoker Cat TV anime series on July 2, 2026. The company first licensed the anime for a simultaneous simulcast last week.
The service is streaming both an edited and unedited version of the series. The edited version of the show was made for broadcasting on Japanese television, while the unedited version has been released in Japan on AnimeFesta, AT-X, DMM TV, and Fuji TV on Demand, among other services.
Netflix also began streaming the unedited version of Chainsmoker Cat in select countries and territories worldwide on July 2, 2026, after announcing its license acquisition of the series last week.
Studio Lemon’s Taku Kimura (Dragonite and the Special Delivery) is directing the anime series, with Takashi Aoshima (The 100 Girlfriends Who Really, Really, Really, Really, REALLY Love You series composer) as scriptwriter, Riki Matsuura (Chainsaw Man: Reze Arc Devil designer) as character designer, and Keiichi Suzuki as music composer. Bibury Animation Studios is handling the animation production.
Other staff involved in the series include Atelier Musa’s Yukiko Maruyama (My Hero Academia co-background art director) and Shotaro Yoshino as background art directors, Yuiha Ota (Witch Watch) as color designer, and Hisashi Yonezawa (Witch Watch) as compositing director.

The slice of life comedy manga by Nyan Nyan Factory began serialization in Kodansha’s Young Magazine on February 20, 2023 and has released 12 tankobon volumes as of May 2026. The manga started as a Twitter webcomic.

Seven Seas Entertainment licensed the Chainsmoker Cat manga for English release and describes the main synopsis as:
Where there’s smoke, there’s a catgirl chainsmoking in this comedy manga! A look at the daily troubles of one catgirl and her attempts to get her life together.
Welcome to Yani’s apartment. Please don’t mind the smell. Yani is a catgirl with a seriously bad smoking habit. Every time she tries to quit, she becomes weak to the cravings and gives in almost instantly.
Behind on her rent and unable to hold down a job, her friends and sister rally around to help her out. But when she’s using her pee to put out cigarette fires, they may just have their work cut out for them.
