Dario Argento Says Next Movie Will Be “Bloodiest” of Career

Filmmaker Dario Argento is no stranger to gore. One of the masters of Giallo, his films have always displayed beauty with the macabre. What some would call hideous, he makes stunning. Think Suspiria, Inferno, Deep Red…there’s a reason horror fans view him as one of the greatest to ever get behind the camera. Though Argento’s work has fallen off in recent years, a new film from the legend is always exciting…and he just gave us another reason to foam at the mouth over his next picture.

WorldOfReel discovered an interview with Argento at Italian outlet, adnkronos, in which he stated that his next movie will be “the bloodiest film of my career”.

Be still, my blood-pumping heart.

The as-yet-untitled film stars Isabelle Huppert (Greta) and was supposed to begin shooting years ago.

In the interview, Argento confirmed that the movie will finally begin shooting in Paris this coming September and will be produced by Les Films du Camélia.

The outlet notes that no plot details have been revealed as of yet, but the film “is said to be a loose remake of a classic 1940s Mexican movie.”

Your guess is as good as mine. Frankly, I don’t care what movie Argento is remaking. The comment that it will be the bloodiest of his career is enough to have me seated yesterday. Obviously, gore doesn’t mean “good”, but Argento’s a bit of an exception. As I said, he makes blood beautiful. It’s a gift. For Argento to say what he did, it could just as easily translate to him saying his next film will be one of the most stunning of his career. Am I exaggerating? Maybe. But there’s nothing wrong with getting amped for a new movie from one of my favorite filmmakers.

Though it’s true Argento hasn’t had a major hit in years, his last picture, Dark Glasses, did mark a bit of a return to form for the filmmaker. Perhaps he still has it in him to deliver another banger.

Either way, I can’t wait to see Argento paint the screen red once again.
