The Blair Witch is coming back…
As we’ve known for a while, Blumhouse and Lionsgate have been cooking up a reboot of 1999’s found-footage phenomenon The Blair Witch Project.
Now, we have confirmation of when the movie will make its way to theatres.
According to an official announcement via Lionsgate, the as-yet-untitled reboot will release on September 24th 2027.
Up-and-coming filmmaker Dylan Clark is attached to direct, following the huge online success of his short Portrait of God.
Cobweb scribe Chris Thomas Devlin has penned the script, and is also among a plethora of producers on the project.
Jason Blum will produce under Blumhouse Productions, whilst James Wan is aboard via his Atomic Monster label.
Also producing are Eduardo Sanchez, Daniel Myrick, Joshua Leonard, and Michael C. Williams, all of whom were involved in the creation of 1999’s The Blair Witch Project.
Their involvement is the culmination of a controversy which saw Leonard, Williams, and Heather Donahue pen an open letter to Lionsgate and Blumhouse. The actors implored the studios to stop exploiting their image in Blair Witch material, as none had been properly compensated, despite the enormous success of the 1999 original.
Leonard and Williams will now receive a cut of the profits from this upcoming reboot, whilst Donahue opted out of the deal, preferring to stay out of the public eye.
September 2027 just got a lot more interesting!
Stay tuned for further Blair Witch updates.
