Maharashtra Police has arrested three more accused from Bihar and Punjab in connection with the Maharashtra Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) paper leak case, while alleged mastermind Bijendra Gupta continues to evade arrest.
The latest arrests include Kapil Dahiya, Mithun Singh and Sonu Singh, who investigators believe played different roles in the paper leak network that allegedly procured and distributed examination papers before the test.
According to sources, Kapil Dahiya was arrested from Pathankot in Punjab. A resident of Haryana’s Sonipat district, he is accused of travelling to Mumbai to sell the leaked question paper.
Mithun Singh was arrested from Bihar. Investigators allege that he had travelled to Pune to distribute and sell the leaked paper. Police sources said Mithun is related to Dheeraj, a Haryana resident who was among the first accused arrested in the case.
The third accused, Sonu Singh, a resident of Bihar’s Samastipur district, was arrested from Hajipur. Investigators claim Sonu worked closely with the paper leak network and allegedly prepared forged documents for Bijendra Gupta, the alleged mastermind of the racket.
Police suspect that leaked examination papers were printed through facilities linked to Sonu. Investigators are examining his alleged association with Gupta, who is also from Samastipur, and believe the two had known each other for years.
The arrests come as Maharashtra Police expands its probe across multiple states in an effort to dismantle the network behind the leak and trace the movement of question papers and money.
The case has already led to several arrests, including that of Gupta’s wife, Suman Gupta. Investigators suspect she played a role in facilitating the operations of the network, though the probe into her alleged involvement is continuing.
Despite the latest arrests, Bijendra Gupta remains absconding. Police teams are conducting searches at multiple locations and tracking his known associates to locate him.
Gupta has long been under the radar of investigative agencies. In 2024, he came into the spotlight after an undercover operation by India Today/Aaj Tak allegedly exposed his involvement in examination-related irregularities.
The Maharashtra TET paper leak case concerns the alleged illegal procurement and circulation of examination papers before the test, raising concerns over the integrity of the recruitment process. Investigators believe the racket involved a network operating across several states and are continuing to examine financial transactions, communication records and the role of intermediaries linked to the accused.
The Maharashtra State Council of Examination (MSCE) postponed the Maharashtra TET, scheduled for June 28, following allegations that the question paper had been leaked.
The investigation is ongoing, and police have indicated that further arrests are likely as new leads emerge.
