Looking at the Hottest Moments in Eagles’ History

Eagles

Hey it’s been pretty hot in Philly. It’s got me thinking of hot performances by Eagles players throughout history. It also helps to detox from believing in the USMNT after their loss to Belgium. My prescription? We’re going to reminisce about the best of the good old days. How am I judging these? I could tell you it’s fancy analytics, AI chatbot (fire me if I resort to that), vibes, things I was alive for, or all of the above (minus AI). But just like I used to do in tests, if I see all the above I’m taking it.

The truth is that heat can be subjective in sports or real life. Kind of like humidity heat to direct heat or your morning coffee or even a slow burn still burns. The hottest performance can come from the situation. Other times it’s on key matchups. Sometimes it’s just one singular moment. Lastly, you have the obvious like statistical performances. We’re going to breakdown some of those feats by Philadelphia’s finest.

Nick Foles Super Bowl LII:

This should be no surprise to anyone. It’s a Super Bowl MVP performance for the city’s first championship. The numbers Foles had are still nothing to scoff at either. Three touchdowns, 373 yards, 65.1% completion percentage, and oh yeah, the most iconic catch in Eagles’ history. It also shouldn’t be a surprise to expect highlights right below. We’re going to let the highlights speak for themselves.

Nick Foles 7 TDs:

Hey look, it’s Nick Foles again! You can’t have a hottest performance list without including an NFL record. So here it is, Nick Foles threw a tied-record of 7 touchdowns in one game. The Eagles routed the at the time Oakland Raiders. Watching the highlights (below), you’ll notice they stop pretty early. The sad part is that if the Raiders were more competitive during this game, Foles would’ve broken the record. Still seven touchdowns in 40 minutes is scorching hot. It also put Nick Foles in the rightful company of players like Drew Brees, Peyton Manning, and George Blanda. Still having more touchdown passes than incompletions is a nuclear-hot performance.

Eagles Offensive Line vs Aaron Donald:

This is a more subjective one, but relevant with rumors Aaron Donald might come back. Historically the Eagles have done a phenomenal job at containing the future Hall of Famer. Donald has a grand total of five solo tackles, zero sacks, and one tackle for loss. That’s in five games. To put it in perspective, he had 10+ sacks in seven out of tens seasons and one with 20.5 sacks. However even during that season, he came to Philadelphia and left with nothing. If Donald does come back, hopefully the Eagles can continue the trend and lock him out of the box score as well as possible.

Jalen Hurts both Super Bowls:

Did you think I was going to make this list and not use it for more Jalen Hurts propaganda? Think again. Besides, if we’re talking hottest performances, and I already included one Super Bowl MVP, it would be weird not to have the other. But we’re not just going to look at one game, since QB1 played exceptional in both Super Bowls even if one was lost. A total of 667 yards, seven touchdowns and an average completion percentage of 70%. Crazy numbers for a guy who is constantly questioned on his skill. No matter what you think of Jalen Hurts, his performances in Super Bowls should show he loves the big moment.

1960 Eagles Championship vs Rams:

History time. You may know that the Eagles won championships before their Super Bowl wins. The 1960 team was a special one. Now what makes this such a hot performance? It certainly wasn’t the weather, 48 degrees at kickoff. Also was not the score, 17-13 final. The special part was who was on the sidelines for the Ram coaching, Vince Lombardi (you know the guy who the Super Bowl trophy is named after). This victory was the lone playoff-loss handed to Mr. Lombardi. It also led to one of the greatest pictures of all time, featured as the header photo. To this day, what’s hotter than beating the best coach of the era and moniker for the Super Bowl?

What performances did I miss? Surely I could go on for days. Honorable mention to Jevon Kearse, the original time the Eagles fleeced the Titans in a trade. There’s also Saquon’s 2k rushing yard season. We could go all the way back and look at the 1948-1949 Eagles’ seasons where they won back to back championships in shutout fashion. Anyway these are just a few that stay in my mind. Hopefully we get another soon (especially Super Bowl MVPs and championships). Thanks for reading and Go Birds!
