When I think of incredible horror performances from the last decade or so, I consider John Goodman in 10 Cloverfield Lane (pictured above) as right up there, nipping at the heels of Toni Collette’s Hereditary performance. Now, the actor is set to return to the genre, as Deadline reports he’s been cast in the creature feature, Skeletons.
Goodman joins Willa Fitzgerald (Strange Darling), Ione Skye (the newest Anaconda), and Daithí Ó Haragáin (“Trespasses”), alongside stars Brie Larson (Captain Marvel) and Kyle Gallner (Strange Darling).
The film is described as “a modern take on the creature horror film told from the perspective of a young boy who slowly begins to discover that his beloved parents are hiding a disturbing secret about his mother’s true nature.”
To me, the film sounds a little like the Halloween-set chiller, Cobweb. And with an absolutely stacked cast that continues to get more impressive, this one’s sounding more and more intriguing.
JT Mollner (Strange Darling) will direct and rewrite the script initially written by Brian Duffield (Whalefall), who based it on a short story by Phillip Fracassi. Mollner wrote the script for Stephen King’s excellent adaptation of The Long Walk.
Every time Goodman joins a horror feature, he delivers a memorable performance. The man has appeared in Fallen, ParaNorman, Kong: Skull Island, and 10 Cloverfield Lane, to name a few. He’s crushed it every single time.
Someone needs to give the casting director of Skeletons a raise.
The project comes from FilmNation Entertainment’s production label Infrared, J.J. Abrams’ Bad Robot Productions, and Assemble Media. Producers are Drew Simon, Abrams, Jon Cohen, and Jack Heller. Executive producers are Assemble’s Caitlin de Lisser-Ellen and Duffield, as well as Roy Lee and Steven Schneider. Larson and Fracassi are also executive producers.
