NEW INFO SUGGESTS “EVIL DEAD WRATH” IS A PREQUEL

Posted on: June 28th, 2026

Although we’re just weeks away from the release of Sébastien Vaniček’s Evil Dead Burn, it’s some new info about 2028’s Evil Dead Wrath that has everyone talking.

Directed by Francis Galluppi of Last Stop in Yuma County, we’ve heard next-to-nothing about Evil Dead Wrath since filming wrapped… Until now.

According to franchise producer Rob Tapert, Evil Dead Wrath is actually a prequel, taking place in 1972!

Tapert says:
“Evil Dead Wrath is yet another great departure. It predates everything. It takes place in 1972.”

This makes Galluppi’s film the first to take place outside of the timeline involving the 1981 discovery of the Necronomicon by Ash Williams and co. Of course, that’s discounting the 2013 remake… which may not even be a remake.

Tapert went on to detail the great lengths Galluppi and his crew went to in order to successfully replicate an authentic 1970s vibe:
“It will feel like a 1972 movie because the director and his DP want to imitate the film’s look and feel of something that’s called Ektachrome 100, which was a film stock. It’s still available. A lot of movies shot on back then. And so, it’s very warm, very tungsten.”

Tapert continues, describing Evil Dead Wrath as:
“Very Tarantino-esque, very deliberate. [Galluppi] made a movie, not a horror movie, that I liked a great deal called Last Stop in Yuma County. It’s worth looking up.”

So, an Evil Dead movie said in the seventies, huh? Will we see a filmmaker successfully recreate that charming 1970s grindhouse vibe of the likes of Last House on the Left or Sam Raimi’s own Within the Woods? We’re very excited to find out!

We’ll have to wait a while, as Evil Dead Rise won’t hit screens until April 7th 2028. Stayed tuned for more series updates as we have them!
