Microsoft Considering Cancelling ‘Marvel’s Blade’ Video Game

Just the other day, we reported that Bethesda Executive Producer Todd Howard gave a positive update on Marvel’s Blade, the video game following the titular vampire hunter. In an unfortunate twist of events, The Verge now reports that Microsoft is considering cancelling the game altogether, along with shutting down Arkane Studios.

Supposedly, Arkane is one of five studios potentially getting the ax. The move comes after Blade’s planned late 2026 release window was delayed to late 2027 and went over budget.

The outlet notes that Arkane, along with Compulsion Games, Double Fine, Ninja Theory, and Undead Labs, may be sold rather than outright shut down.

Marvel’s Blade was announced back in 2023 with a reveal trailer. But, until Howard’s comments the other day, we hadn’t heard much. Now, it sounds as if that may be the end of it.

I certainly hope that’s not the case.

The vampire-slaying character of Blade was first introduced in Marvel’s The Tomb of Dracula #10. He later made his feature film debut with the Wesley Snipes vehicle Blade in 1998 (still probably my personal favorite film based on a Marvel character. Nothing beats that opening blood club scene). Fans across the world adore the character and have been eagerly awaiting a video game starring the vampire hunter, while we wait for any news on a new movie.

Apparently, Blade fans can’t have nice things. And, not to beat a popular vampire pun to death, but that sucks.

We’ll keep our fingers crossed that Marvel’s Blade still ends up rising out of the coffin. But at this point, don’t hold your garlic breath.
