HIDIVE announced last week that it has added all 42 episodes of the 1981 sci-fi adventure TV anime series Queen Millennia, as of September 2, 2025 at 1:00 PM EST. The anime is currently streaming in Japanese with English subtitles.
Sentai Filmworks also released a complete Blu-ray collection of the series on September 2, 2025.
The 42-episode TV anime series broadcast in Japan from April 16, 1981 to March 25, 1982. Toei Doga (now known as Toei Animation) was in charge of the animation production.
The anime is based on Leiji Matsumoto’s manga series Shin Taketori Monogatari Sennen Joo, which was serialized in the Sankei Shimbun and Nishinippon Sports Japanese newspapers from 28 January 28, 1980 to May 11, 1983. Five total tankobon volumes were originally published in Japan.
The series has also inspired a two-volume novelization, two light novel series, and an animated film retelling in 1982
HIDIVE describes the main synopsis of Queen Millennia as:
In 1999, Professor Amamori discovers that a new planet in our solar system is on a collision course with Earth. As doomsday preparations begin and the Millennial Bandits plot planetary destruction, Amamori’s nephew Hajime moves in and starts to suspect that Yayoi, his uncle’s assistant, isn’t exactly what she seems. Join Hajime as he uncovers the secrets of the universe in the classic space opera QUEEN MILLENNIA!
