Aniplex and Crunchyroll have teased the upcoming Ghost of Tsushima Legends anime with a character art trailer (dubbed as an official teaser by the latter).
Both videos say that the anime, which is inspired by the open world action-adventure game Ghost of Tsushima and its co-op mode Ghost of Tsushima: Legends, is “coming soon.” When the series was unveiled in January 2025, it was announced that it would “premiere exclusively on Crunchyroll in 2027.”
Ghost of Tsushima Legends will follow “one of the last remaining samurai as he defends his homeland of Tsushima against the Mongol Empire.” Takanobu Mizuno (Star Wars: Visions “The Duel”) is directing with series composition from NITROPLUS’ Gen Urobuchi (Fate/Zero light novel author, Puella Magi Madoka Magica scriptwriter, Thunderbolt Fantasy creator et al., Phantom PHANTOM OF INFERNO scenario writer) and character designs from Takashi Okazaki (Afro Samurai manga creator).
Kamikaze Doga is the animation production studio for the show. HAYATE, a recently formed joint venture from Aniplex and Crunchyroll for “planning, developing, and producing anime content for the Crunchyroll streaming service available worldwide,” is producing in the business/finance sense.
The Sucker Punch Productions-developed Ghost of Tsushima was originally released in 2020 for PlayStation 4 and came to PlayStation 5 and PC later. Ghost of Tsushima: Legends was added after launch and received a standalone release in September 2021. A sequel titled Ghost of Yotei arrived in 2025.
