Break out the campfire songs, because A24 and Peacock just dropped the first teaser trailer through EW for the Friday the 13th prequel series, Crystal Lake, and it’s giving off pure, atmospheric slasher vibes!
In the trailer, we’re submerged in a Camp Crystal Lake drenched in rolling fog, dead bodies, a creepy camp song, and star Linda Cardellini (playing Pamela Voorhees), dropping a “mommy’s here” line. I have chills.
Along with the trailer, EW also debuted a handful of new, first-look photos of Cardellini as the mother to end all mothers. Give them a look along with the trailer below.
Based on the slasher series begun by Sean S. Cunningham in 1980, the eight-episode, 70s-set series follows a doomed small town where camp counselors come to die. It tells the origins of the Voorhees family and leads up to the “birth” of the ultimate slasher: Jason.
Brad Caleb Kane (IT: Welcome to Derry) is serving as showrunner.
Said Kane to EW on the Pamela character, a major piece of the Friday puzzle who has yet to be fully explored: “We wanted to dive into Pam’s psychology. We wanted to see her unraveling after [watching] the events of the movie that everybody knows. We wanted to see her relationship with Jason and what his death kicks off in her — her trying to find some sort of equilibrium in her life after the thing that ostensibly she lives for, her son, was taken away from her, and how all the people around her and the circumstances surrounding her make that impossible to do. So it’s really a character piece.”
Added Kane, “As a fan, I’m trying to give fans — and particularly grown-up fans — the show that they would wanna see now.”
Based on what we’re seeing so far, there’s every chance that Kane accomplished just that.
Earlier this year, Peacock shared the first teaser photos from Crystal Lake, which also stars earlier versions of characters from the original film, such as Crazy Ralph (Nick Cordileone), Claudette (Danielle Kotch), and Barry (Phoenix Parnevik), along with new characters connected to the town’s history. Callum Vinson plays a young Jason Voorhees.
Crystal Lake will slash onto Peacock on October 15, 2026.
