A teaser trailer and 2027 debut window for the Blade & Bastard anime have been revealed, along with its main staff details. Additionally, HIDIVE announced that it will stream the show.
Tomoki Kobayashi (Summer Pockets, Remake Our Life!, Seiren) is directing the anime at xingfu. Other staff include Naruhisa Arakawa as series composer and Rina Iwamoto (Nisekoi co-main animator) as character designer.
Blade & Bastard is based on the light novel series written by Kumo Kagyu and illustrated by so-bin. HIDIVE describes the anime’s synopsis as such:
Deep in the unexplored reaches of the dungeon, the corpse of a man named Iarumas is discovered. Once resurrected, Iarumas loses all memories of his life before death and must now spend his days delving into the dungeon, collecting a finder’s fee for retrieving the bodies of dead adventurers. His skills quickly earn him some grudging respect even as he is scorned for his cold, utilitarian attitude. Because the living keep their distance from him, Iarumas is left to consort primarily with the dead. That is, until he meets Garbage, a feral young swordswoman and sole survivor of a massacred party. With Garbage by his side, Iarumas decides to venture deeper, scouring the dungeon for clues to his past while simultaneously avoiding monsters, traps, and the inevitability of a permanent ashen demise by God’s hand.
The previously announced cast members are:
• Makoto Furukawa as Iarumas
• Tomori Kusunoki as Garbage
• Daiki Yamashita as Raraja
• Saori Hayami as Ainikki
• Shion Wakayama as Berkanan
The books are published under DRECOM’s DRE Novels label and are set in the world of Wizardry, the dungeon-crawling RPG series that began in 1981 as a western title but is currently owned by DRECOM. The series, which is available in English from J-Novel Club, began in December 2022 and has six volumes as of March 2026. There is also a manga adaptation.
