Biker killed as SUV with ‘Member of Parliament’ sticker rams him in Bihar

A man was killed, and another critically injured after a Scorpio SUV bearing a ‘Member of Parliament’ (MP) sticker allegedly rammed their motorcycle in Bihar’s East Champaran district late on Sunday night, police said. The accident took place near Pashupatinath Chowk on the Bettiah-Hajipur State Highway (SH-74) in Motihari.

According to local police, the Scorpio collided with the motorcycle with such force that one of the riders died on the spot. At the same time, the other sustained serious injuries and was rushed to a nearby hospital. The injured man’s condition is stated to be critical.

The deceased has been identified as Pancham Kumar, a resident of Janerwa village. Police reached the spot soon after the incident, recovered the body and sent it for post-mortem examination. An investigation has been launched to ascertain the circumstances leading to the crash.

Eyewitnesses and residents claimed that the Scorpio was carrying a sticker identifying it as an MP’s vehicle. They also alleged that the driver appeared to be under the influence of alcohol and fled the scene after the accident, taking advantage of the darkness.

Family members of the deceased echoed similar allegations. Pancham Kumar’s nephew claimed the driver identified himself as an MP’s chauffeur and allegedly threatened onlookers, saying no action could be taken against him because the vehicle belonged to a parliamentarian. The family has demanded strict action against those responsible.

The impact of the collision left the motorcycle extensively damaged, triggering protests by residents who gathered at the accident site. Police pacified the crowd and shifted the injured victim to hospital for treatment.

Authorities have not yet confirmed whether the Scorpio is officially linked to any sitting MP or Union minister. Police said efforts are underway to trace the vehicle and its driver, and appropriate legal action will be taken based on the findings of the investigation.
