Haitian Communities Across the U.S. Rally Today in National Day of Action Following TPS Ruling – L’union Suite

Haitian communities and their allies are mobilizing across the United States today, Thursday, July 9, for a coordinated National Day of Action following the U.S. Supreme Court ruling that cleared the way for the Trump administration to end Temporary Protected Status for Haitians and Syrians.

The demonstrations come at a moment of growing fear and uncertainty for hundreds of thousands of Haitian families who have built lives, careers, businesses and communities in the United States.

Rallies and community actions are planned in multiple locations, including Florida, New York, Massachusetts, Georgia, Illinois and Washington, D.C., with additional communities joining the nationwide effort.

The message at the center of the movement is simple: “People are not temporary.”

Organizers say the day of action is meant to show TPS holders that they are not alone while calling attention to the human impact of ending protections. For many affected families, TPS is tied not only to immigration status but also to the legal ability to work, provide for children, pay bills and remain in communities they have called home for years.

The demonstrations follow the Supreme Court’s 6-3 decision on June 25, which allowed the administration to move forward with ending TPS protections affecting hundreds of thousands of Haitians and several thousand Syrians. The ruling removed a major legal barrier to the administration’s plans, though individual immigration circumstances may differ depending on whether a person qualifies for another form of legal status or relief.

The TPS debate has also expanded beyond immigration policy. Business groups have warned about possible workforce disruptions, particularly in states such as Florida, while healthcare experts and lawmakers have raised concerns about the potential loss of Haitian workers in caregiving, nursing homes, assisted-living facilities and other essential sectors.

For Haitian communities, today’s rallies are about visibility, solidarity and making sure affected families know their voices are being heard.

Events are taking place across multiple cities, and times and locations vary. Participants are encouraged to check local organizers for confirmed details before attending.

As Haitian families continue to face uncertainty over what comes next, today’s National Day of Action is carrying one message from city to city:

People are not temporary.
