The show is based on the Overlap Bunko light novel series written by Shoji Goji and currently illustrated by Saku Enomaru (Booota was the initial illustrator). Seven Seas Entertainment describes the synopsis as such:
When sarcastic loner Haruka gets transported with his class to another world, he’s not wild about adventuring, but he wouldn’t mind having some cool powers. Unfortunately, he’s last in line when the magic cheat skills get divvied up, so by the time it’s Haruka’s turn, there are no good choices left. Now Haruka will have to take on this fantasy world the hard way–on his own, with a hodgepodge of bizarre skills! When infighting and chaos break out among his classmates, can this loner come to the rescue?
Season 1 of Loner Life in Another World was directed by Akio Kazumi (From Old Country Bumpkin to Master Swordsman, Fist of the Blue Sky Re: Genesis) and co-produced by Hayabusa Film and Passione. Other credits include Frontier Engine for animation production cooperation, Kenta Ihara (Tsukimichi: Moonlit Fantasy) as series composer, and Keiya Nakano (Keijo!!!!!!!!) as character designer. Shuichiro Umeda voiced Haruka.
Loner Life In Another World was originally a web novel that debuted on Shousetsuka ni Narou in 2016. The light novel series started in 2018 and has 18 volumes as of March 2026. There is a manga by Bibi.
