Guterres\u00a0urged\u00a0all parties\u00a0\u201cto take immediate steps for de-escalation and return to the path of dialogue and diplomacy\u201d,\u00a0UN Spokesperson St\u00e9phane Dujarric\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.un.org\/sg\/en\/content\/sg\/notes-correspondents\/2026-07-15\/note-correspondents-iran-and-the-gulf\" York.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Secretary-General reiterates that a return to full-scale hostilities would exact an intolerable toll on civilians and have catastrophic consequences for international peace and security and the global economy,\u201d he\u00a0said.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0UN\u00a0chief also\u00a0reiterated\u00a0his call for the full restoration of international navigational rights and freedoms in and around the Strait of Hormuz,\u00a0a crucial maritime corridor for\u00a0oil and natural gas exports.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>He stressed that the exercise of navigational rights and
