At the heart of the story is how Suzuki\u2019s and Tani\u2019s attraction for each other blossomed into a relationship despite how different they are in personality. This resulted in a love story of adorable interactions and a rom-com that grabbed audiences by the heart. At Anime Expo 2026, Anime Trending interviewed <\/span>Sayumi Suzushiro<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and <\/span>Shogo Sakata<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, the voice actors of Suzuki and Tani, respectively.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 16px; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">Despite the fact that they\u2019re polar opposites, Suzuki and Tani are very open with each other about their feelings and are very adept at communicating with each other. Why do you think that is?<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 16px; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">Sayumi Suzushiro:<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> It\u2019s because of <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">love<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">! [laughs] But also, they\u2019re considerate to each other. They value each other as romantic partners <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">and <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">as individuals.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 16px; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">Shogo Sakata:<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> It\u2019s because they\u2019re complete opposites that they respect each other\u2019s differences. Add to the fact that they care so much for each other, they have a strong desire to get to know each other, which moves their communication smoothly.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 16px; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">What is your favorite doki-doki moment in the show, and why is that your favorite?<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 16px; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">Sayumi Suzushiro:<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> There were a lot of exciting moments in the first season, but for me, the confession scene \u2014 screaming \u201cI love you\u201d from the bridge over the street is my favorite. When you finally confess your feelings after letting your affection build up for so long, it becomes a double dose of emotions: the love you feel <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">and <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">the nervous tension. Then, it hits the absolute peak, like when Suzuki was at the peak on the bridge.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p>From Crunchyroll episode 6<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 16px; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">Shogo Sakata:<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> For me, it\u2019s the summer festival scene in Episode 4, where Suzuki was about to drop her phone and Tani picked it up from the other side, and their faces got really close. Although it\u2019s around their third or fourth date, it\u2019s one of the first moments where they get physically close to each other. I like the atmosphere of that moment \u2014 that silence, that feeling of, \u201cWhat are we going to do from here?\u201d It\u2019s almost like time stood still. That was a moment that just left me breathless.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 16px; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">Going into Season 2, what\u2019s different between the seasons?<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 16px; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">Sayumi Suzushiro:<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> The heavy focus in Season 1 is on Suzuki and Tani, but since they\u2019ve been dating for a while, there are new worries for Suzuki and Tani as a couple. They\u2019re also stepping into the role of \u201ccouple <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">senpai<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201d\u2014their mindset begins to shift as the couple with the most experience. In Season 2, there\u2019s more focus on the development of relationships between the other characters, and Suzuki and Tani are instead looking over them.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 16px; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">Shogo Sakata:<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> They\u2019ve been dating since Season 1 and have spent a lot of time together, so in Season 2, they\u2019ve grown more comfortable with each other. They also have talks about the future \u2014 topics you can only have when you\u2019re dating as students. For example, what to expect after graduation. As a whole, there are aspects to their relationship that are more serious than Season 1, which you\u2019ll see with how they move forward in their relationship. They also experience moments of not being on the same page.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p>\u00a9\u963f\u8cc0\u6ca2\u7d05\u8336\uff0f\u96c6\u82f1\u793e\u30fb\u300c\u6b63\u53cd\u5bfe\u306a\u541b\u3068\u50d5\u300d\u88fd\u4f5c\u59d4\u54e1\u4f1a<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 16px; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">Suzushiro-san, Suzuki is very animated and makes all kinds of noises. What is it like to voice a character who loves talking and has so much expression?<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 16px; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">Sayumi Suzushiro:<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> I don\u2019t think of Suzuki as your typical rom-com heroine. She has a lot of different sides to her, and she\u2019s a character I took on all kinds of vocal challenges with. What I value most is that she\u2019s very delicate on the inside. She\u2019s very self-aware, always reading the room, and conscious of other dynamics around her, so I think it\u2019s important to consider what she\u2019s actually thinking. It\u2019s not just about being lively for Suzuki. She\u2019s actively working to energize others around her. There are certain changes in her voice when she\u2019s moved or feeling something toward Tani. I tried to channel all of that \u2014 the vibes, the emotion, the energy \u2014 into the character.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 16px; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">Shogo Sakata, despite the fact that Tani feels more emotionless, especially when compared to Suzuki, the audience can still hear how much he loves her when he talks to her. What is it like to voice a character who\u2019s clearly in love but can sound very muted, and how do you go about perfecting his character?<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 16px; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">Shogo Sakata:<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> First, I wanted to take care of the fact that Tani\u2019s character is inseparable from who he is. I didn\u2019t want to make him too sweet, and I didn\u2019t want to lean too heavily into the tropes of shojo manga for romantic leads. To convey a true-to-life Tani-kun, I made sure to carefully articulate his emotional shifts and to emphasize the things he wanted to convey. I also wanted to express the cadence in which he speaks and the rhythm \u2014 the timing of how he speaks, where he\u2019d pause, and when he\u2019d be silent as examples.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 16px; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">What are you most looking forward to in Season 2 that you would like the fans to watch out for?<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 16px; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">Sayumi Suzushiro:<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> As for Suzuki and Tani, their relationship has deepened over time, so keep an eye on the dynamic between them. Also, since actual time has passed in their school lives, you can really enjoy the youthful aspects \u2014 the fun of high school events and the bittersweet feeling of them coming to an end. It covers various school functions and the looming issue of entrance exams.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p>\u00a9\u963f\u8cc0\u6ca2\u7d05\u8336\uff0f\u96c6\u82f1\u793e\u30fb\u300c\u6b63\u53cd\u5bfe\u306a\u541b\u3068\u50d5\u300d\u88fd\u4f5c\u59d4\u54e1\u4f1a<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 16px; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">Shogo Sakata:<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Season 2 covers the story all the way to the end of the original work, so it\u2019s great to be able to enjoy the whole thing through to its conclusion. When I read the final volume of the manga myself, I thought I was going to cry. There\u2019s that feeling of loneliness once you finish reading, but also warmth. I\u2019m really looking forward to experiencing that again.
