BREAKING: Freddy Krueger is finally coming home.<\/p>\n
Dread Central learned this morning that Paramount<\/strong> has officially closed a deal for the U.S. rights to develop a brand-new film set in the world of A Nightmare on Elm Street<\/strong><\/em>, marking the franchise\u2019s first major step forward in years.<\/p>\n The project will be developed under Paramount\u2019s new genre label, Paramount Primal, headed by producers J.D. Lifshitz<\/strong> and Raphael Margules<\/strong>, the team behind recent genre hits including Weapons<\/strong><\/em>, Barbarian<\/strong><\/em>, Companion<\/strong><\/em>, and Friendship<\/strong><\/em>.<\/p>\n The U.S. rights have been licensed from the Wes Craven<\/strong> estate, with Iya Labunka<\/strong>, Jonathan Craven<\/strong>, and Marc Toberoff<\/strong> producing the new film. Lifshitz and Margules will serve as executive producers.<\/p>\n While Paramount is keeping story details under wraps, the studio confirmed that the untitled project is now a priority development and will be set within the world of<\/strong> A Nightmare on Elm Street<\/strong><\/em>, drawing from Wes Craven\u2019s original screenplay.<\/p>\n \u201cWe look forward to bringing the world of Wes Craven\u2019s Nightmare on Elm Street<\/em> to a new and completely engaged generation of fans,\u201d said Iya Labunka. \u201cWe know that Wes would have been thrilled to see how horror is taking its long overdue place in the cultural canon.
