Lifshitz<\/strong> and <strong>Raphael Margules<\/strong>, the team behind recent genre hits including <em><strong>Weapons<\/strong><\/em>, <em><strong>Barbarian<\/strong><\/em>, <em><strong>Companion<\/strong><\/em>, and <em><strong>Friendship<\/strong><\/em>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The U.S. rights have been licensed from the <strong>Wes Craven<\/strong> estate, with <strong>Iya Labunka<\/strong>, <strong>Jonathan Craven<\/strong>, and <strong>Marc Toberoff<\/strong> producing the new film. Lifshitz and Margules will serve as executive producers.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">While Paramount is keeping story details under wraps, the studio confirmed that the untitled project is now a priority development and will be <strong>set within the world of<\/strong> <em><strong>A Nightmare on Elm Street<\/strong><\/em>, drawing from Wes Craven\u2019s original screenplay.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWe look forward to bringing the world of Wes Craven\u2019s <em>Nightmare on Elm Street<\/em> to a new and completely engaged generation of fans,\u201d said Iya Labunka. \u201cWe know that Wes would have been thrilled to see how horror is taking its long overdue place in the cultural canon. We can\u2019t wait for all of us to sit together in a dark theatre\u2014around the campfire of today\u2014as the next chapter of the <em>Nightmare<\/em> story unfolds.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Lifshitz and Margules added, \u201cWe can\u2019t remember a time before we were fans of Wes Craven. The fact that Iya and Jonathan have entrusted us with this opportunity to help usher a new story into this world is an honor beyond words. We look forward to working alongside them to bring a terrifying new nightmare to audiences everywhere\u2014and to welcome Freddy home.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The announcement also officially unveils Paramount Primal, the studio\u2019s new genre-focused production label. Launched earlier this year, the banner will develop smartly budgeted horror, action, comedy, and grounded science fiction films with both emerging and established filmmakers.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It\u2019s been more than a decade since Freddy Krueger last stalked moviegoers in 2010\u2019s <em>A Nightmare on Elm Street<\/em> reboot, and fans have been waiting ever since for the dream demon\u2019s return.
