It\u2019s the horrifying debut of one of <strong>Batman<\/strong>\u2018s oldest villains.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The issue quietly introduces the Absolute Universe\u2019s version of <strong>Calendar Man<\/strong>, marking the character\u2019s first appearance in the new continuity. During a flashback involving Harley Quinn and her mother, readers are treated to one of the comic\u2019s most disturbing images as Calendar Man emerges from a gore-covered human body. It\u2019s a blink-and-you\u2019ll-miss-it moment, but one that\u2019s already turning heads among fans. <\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">While writer and co-creator <strong>Scott Snyder<\/strong> doesn\u2019t explain the sequence outright, longtime Batman readers may recognize the inspiration. During his <em>Batman<\/em> run, Snyder reinvented Calendar Man in <em><strong>Batman: Rebirth<\/strong><\/em> with a gruesome twist: each spring, the villain is reborn by <em>literally<\/em> crawling out of the decaying corpse of his previous body. The Absolute Universe appears to push that already unsettling concept even further into full-blown body horror.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Calendar Man first appeared in 1958\u2019s <em><strong>Detective Comics<\/strong><\/em> #259 as the colorful, gimmicky criminal <strong>Julian Gregory Day<\/strong>, a villain whose crimes revolved around holidays and significant dates.
