<\/span><\/p>\n This summer, things are going to get pretty weird. At least if Alex Grass has anything to do with it. His upcoming short story collection, <\/span>Infernal Tramps: Tales of Weird Terror<\/span>, is slated for release on July 15th.<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cI\u2019d like to think that if David Cronenberg and Clive Barker got together and smoked bath salts, they\u2019d come up with something like <\/span>Infernal Tramps<\/span>.\u201d The author says while crookedly smiling through press interviews inside his Brooklyn home.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cThe thing of it is, I\u2019m a pretty normal guy,\u201d Alex says, while a freaky-looking feline wearing a gold chain stalks the author, like his familiar. The image evokes Salvador Dali and his pet ocelot. \u201cJust because I used to work in a cemetery doesn\u2019t mean I\u2019m not normal. And there\u2019s plenty of people who steal motorcycles when they\u2019re young. And there\u2019s lots of people who spend three months in rehab, too.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n Right.<\/span><\/p>\n To judge by its reception, <\/span>Infernal Tramps<\/span> is an experience that unsettles as much as titillates. \u201cA quick shot of pure, unadulterated dread straight to the dome,\u201d is how <\/span>Blood for Beer Money<\/span> author Emily Archuleta puts it.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n She isn\u2019t the only other writer to read Alex\u2019s work. Patrick Barb, a Bram Stoker Award nominee, has an interesting take on the book: \u201cThe experience is akin to a late-night bus ride, where the only seat available is at the very back, next to a ranting, raving stranger.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n The stories have an undeniable flavor of phantasmagoric freakery. \u201cWhich is what I was going for,\u201d Mr. Grass admits. Straight from the jump, the premises are insistently strange: a pest-control system that regenerates missing limbs, a woman driving through the wilderness with a pickup truck of mutant babies, a resurrected hellhound sending a whole city spiraling into violent insanity.<\/span><\/p>\n The writing is feverish. The characters, morally ambiguous. The imagery lush and apocalyptic all at once.<\/span><\/p>\n It\u2019s hard to deny that the subtitle on the front of the book accurately represents what\u2019s inside. These are, yes, definitely very <\/span>Weird<\/span> Tales of Terror. Weird enough, in fact, to prompt David Royce, book critic of the popular YouTube channel Horror Reads, to make this bold claim: <\/span>\u201cI highly doubt you\u2019ll read a more bizarre collection of stories this year.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n But it is perhaps one of Alex\u2019s earliest readers, Amanda, who has best described the author\u2019s work: \u201cThink \u2018<\/span>Twilight Zone<\/span> meets <\/span>Hostel<\/span>\u2018.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n Does <\/span>Infernal Tramps <\/span>live up to the hype?\u00a0 <\/span>https:\/\/www.infernaltramps.com\/advance<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n<\/p>\n \u00a0<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" This summer, things are going to get pretty weird.
