The rally came amid growing concern after a Supreme Court ruling allowed the Trump administration to move forward with ending TPS protections for certain immigrant groups.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">MIAMI \u2014 Hundreds of Temporary Protected Status (TPS) holders, immigrant advocates, faith leaders, labor organizations and community members gathered Thursday evening at the Little Haiti Cultural Center in Miami to urge Congress to pass legislation providing permanent legal protections for TPS recipients from Haiti.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The rally, organized by <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.avanseansanm.org\/\">Avanse Ansanm<\/a>, was part of a nationwide day of action held one day before many TPS holders were scheduled to lose their work authorization under the Trump administration\u2019s policy changes.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Demonstrators repeatedly called on lawmakers to support Senate Bill 4814, which would provide permanent protections, including a pathway to citizenship, for eligible TPS holders.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWe\u2019re trying to get everyone to vote yes on Senate Bill 4814,\u201d Santra Denis, the president and founder of Avanse Ansanm, said in an interview with <em>The Haitian Time<\/em>s. \u201cCall your senators, email them, text them to ensure that we\u2019re putting pressure on them to say \u2018yes\u2019 to extending TPS for Haitians.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cVolunteer\u2026we need drivers; we\u2019re going to need people to do grocery deliveries, court accompaniment\u2026all of these services people are going to need,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-jetpack-slideshow_swiper-wrapper swiper-wrapper\">\n<li class=\"wp-block-jetpack-slideshow_slide swiper-slide\">A stranger holding a banner supporting TPS outside the Little Haiti Cultural Center in Miami on Thursday, July 9, 2026. Photo by Guethshina Altena \/ The Haitian Times<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"wp-block-jetpack-slideshow_button-prev swiper-button-prev swiper-button-white\" role=\"button\"\/><a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"wp-block-jetpack-slideshow_button-next swiper-button-next swiper-button-white\" role=\"button\"\/><a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" aria-label=\"Pause Slideshow\" class=\"wp-block-jetpack-slideshow_button-pause\" role=\"button\"\/><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Several attendees chanted, waved signs and voiced their frustration over the recent Supreme Court ruling that allows the administration to move forward with ending protections for hundreds of thousands of immigrants.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The demonstration followed a decision by the U.S. Supreme Court\u2019s conservative majority allowing the Trump administration to proceed with ending TPS for Haitians and Syrians.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Advocates say the ruling places approximately 350,000 TPS holders at risk of losing the legal protections that allow them to live and work in the United States.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Many speakers emphasized that TPS holders have become integral members of their communities, working in hospitals, hotels, restaurants, construction, agriculture and other industries while raising families and contributing billions of dollars annually to the U.S. economy.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cI see firsthand how immigration is affecting the schools today,\u201d said Wedly Mesidor, a candidate for Miami-Dade County public schools, who also has family on TPS. \u201cWe can\u2019t go back right now.
