Even though every time I\u2019ve gone, I\u2019ve loved it. That\u2019ll have to change soon, as <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/2026\/film\/news\/academy-museum-horror-show-carrie-john-carpenter-1236804434\/\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/2026\/film\/news\/academy-museum-horror-show-carrie-john-carpenter-1236804434\/\">Variety<\/a> reports that the Academy has announced \u201c<strong>The Horror Show Exhibition<\/strong>\u201c, a tribute to the history and craft of our favorite genre!<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Notes the Academy website, \u201cBlurring the line between museum presentation and eerie spectacle, The Horror Show will take visitors on a journey through cinema, starting with an introductory gallery sound installation, into \u201cThe Hallway\u201d \u2014 modeled after the common horror trope\u2014that will lead to six distinctly themed galleries: Gothic, Psychological, Science, Slasher, Religion, and Ghosts. Each gallery is designed to invite visitors into iconic settings, where they will encounter their favorite creatures, monsters, and objects.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Public programs and film screenings include:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>John Carpenter: Prince of Darkness<\/li>\n<li>The 2026 Monster Mash on Oct. 24, featuring the U.S. premiere of the 4K restoration of <em>Horror of Dracula<\/em><\/li>\n<li>A Halloween night screening of<em> The Craft<\/em><\/li>\n<li>Sissy Spacek in person on Nov. 19 for the <em>Carrie <\/em>50th anniversary screening<\/li>\n<li>January series on Hammer films.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Additional films in The Horror Show exhibit include <em>Get Out<\/em>, <em>The Hunger<\/em>, <em>Sinners<\/em>, <em>The Shining<\/em>, original storyboards from <em>Psycho<\/em>, a mask from <em>Creature from the Black Lagoon<\/em>, costumes from <em>Midsommar<\/em>, and costumed figures of Freddy Krueger, Michael Myers, Ghostface, and Art the Clown.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Be still, my beating heart. <\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Horror Show\u00a0is organized by Senior Exhibitions Curator Jessica Niebel with Assistant Curator Nicholas Barlow and Curatorial Assistant Alexandra James Salichs.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Actor <strong>Willem Dafoe<\/strong> (<em>Nosferatu<\/em>) and filmmaker <strong>Osgood Perkins<\/strong> (<em>Longlegs<\/em>) are on board as an advisory team for the exhibit.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Said Dafoe, \u201cCinema in general engages your sense of wonder, but horror can explode it. It is a popular form, born of modest financial resources and with a strong, lasting independent streak. And it has all the same possibilities for originality, inventiveness, and freedom that it did in its infancy.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Added Perkins, \u201cHorror is crucial to culture and cinema, and to our evolving understanding of what it means to be alive on earth. I couldn\u2019t think of a bigger or better celebration of the films and stories that have impacted audiences so profoundly and for so long. There is something for every horror fan to appreciate and enjoy in this exhibition, a hallway of limitless doors to be opened and explored.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The 10-month-long exhibit debuts<strong> September 26th<\/strong> in the Marilyn and Jeffrey Katzenberg Gallery on the Los Angeles museum\u2019s fourth floor. It will run through to <strong>July 25, 2027<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And me?
