{"id":34227,"date":"2026-07-08T01:33:07","date_gmt":"2026-07-08T05:33:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/design-providers.com\/rise\/focus-features-catches-the-fisherman-david-lowery-directing\/"},"modified":"2026-07-08T01:33:07","modified_gmt":"2026-07-08T05:33:07","slug":"focus-features-catches-the-fisherman-david-lowery-directing","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/design-providers.com\/rise\/focus-features-catches-the-fisherman-david-lowery-directing\/","title":{"rendered":"Focus Features Catches &#8216;The Fisherman&#8217;; David Lowery Directing"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Focus Features<\/strong> (<em>Obsession<\/em>) has landed one hell of a trophy fish by snagging the rights to supernatural horror <em><strong>The Fisherman<\/strong><\/em>, based on the novel by <strong>John Langan<\/strong>, reports <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/movies\/movie-news\/the-fisherman-movie-michael-bay-1236638915\/\">THR<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>David Lowery<\/strong> (<em>The Green Knight<\/em>, <em>A Ghost Story<\/em>, <em>Mother Mary<\/em>) will direct the adaptation and co-write the script with <strong>Alex Ross Perry<\/strong> (<em>Her Smell<\/em>, <em>Pavements<\/em>).<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Langan\u2019s novel \u201ctells the story of Abe and Dan, two widowers who bond together with fishing getaways in upstate New York as a way to cope with their grief. One day, however, Dan suggests the pair try a new spot, an isolated and mysterious place named Dutchman\u2019s Creek, which is whispered to allow a person to see their loved ones. Even a spooky tale from a man in a diner detailing the terrible history of the creek can\u2019t stop the two men, who eventually find themselves face to face with Der Fisher, aka The Fisherman. They probably should have just stayed home that weekend.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The project has multiple heavy hitters attached to produce, with <strong>Michael Bay<\/strong>, <strong>Brad Fuller<\/strong>, and <strong>Alex Ginno<\/strong> of <strong>Platinum Dunes<\/strong>, the banner behind <em>A Quiet Place<\/em> and <em>The Purge<\/em> movies, not to mention several remakes from <em>Friday the 13th<\/em> to <em>Texas Chainsaw Massacre<\/em>. Also producing is <strong>Gary Dauberman<\/strong>, the writer behind New Line\u2019s <em>It<\/em> and <em>Annabelle<\/em> films, and <strong>Mia Maniscalco<\/strong>, via their company, <strong>Coin Operated<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The novel won the 2016 <strong>Bram Stoker Award<\/strong> for Best Novel. It has been described as a blend of cosmic horror and folk horror.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">With so much talent involved, Focus Features could have the catch of the year on its hands. At least, we can hope. <\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Next up from Platinum Dunes is <em>A Quiet Place Part III<\/em>, currently in production with John Krasinski returning as writer and director.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As for Coin Operated, they\u2019re in post-production on <em>The Revenge of La Llorona<\/em>, New Line\u2019s sequel to <em>The Curse of La Llorona<\/em>.
