Filmmaker Vera Drew<\/strong> (pictured above in The People\u2019s Joker<\/em>) blew me away with her debut feature that plays in the world of Batman and the Joker through many more interesting avenues than some Batman movies. It\u2019s funny, mesmerizing, tragic, and wholly unique. A real knock-out. And now, it sounds like Drew will next delve into the world of cosmic horror with Trandemic<\/strong><\/em>, reports Deadline<\/a>. <\/p>\n

The project has been dubbed a \u201ccosmic found-footage horror comedy\u201d, a result of Drew becoming the first recipient of the Transgender Film Center Found Footage Feature Fund award.<\/p>\n

Said fund was created to support micro-budget feature filmmaking by transgender creators, with Duplass Brothers Productions as one of the original supporters of the fund. They\u2019re also the ones who selected Trandemic<\/em> as the winning project. <\/p>\n

At this time, we don\u2019t have any plot details. But just the idea of Drew taking a dive into cosmic horror is exciting. As I said, People\u2019s Joker<\/em> previewed a rising filmmaker with extraordinary talent. The fact that Drew is bringing that to the found-footage genre, well, I can\u2019t wait. <\/p>\n

Deadline notes, \u201cDrew will receive a $25,000 cash grant to support production of\u00a0Trandemic<\/em>. The award package also includes creative advisory support from Duplass Brothers Productions; mentorship with\u00a0Mark Duplass\u00a0and Patrick Brice; a final script review from Duplass before production; development guidance from Kevin Nicklaus of Sandstone Artists; 15 days of in-kind post-production services from Aesthetica Post, including conform, color grading, light VFX, DCP delivery and festival-ready masters; a $37,000 post-sound package from Aura Sound and Color; and festival submission waivers from Transgender Film Center and partner festivals, including Fantastic Fest.\u201d<\/p>\n

Said Drew, \u201cI\u2019m so wildly stoked and honored to be receiving this grant from the Trans Film Center and Duplass Brothers Productions. Patrick Brice and Mark Duplass reinvented the found footage genre with the Creep<\/em> franchise, so their support means the world to me as I gear up to do the same with my sophomore feature film Trandemic<\/em>.\u201d<\/p>\n
