Carla Hall will merge food, art, and culture for the ultimate casual dining experience. <\/p>\n
BLACK ENTERPRISE<\/strong> is celebrating National Fried Chicken Day with a spotlight on celebrity chef Carla Hall\u2019s recent opening of Bumblebirds, a fried chicken and cocktail bar in the Capitol Hill neighborhood of Washington, D.C. The restaurant had its grand opening party early spring.<\/p>\n Hall ushered in the spring season with a Southern\u2011inspired menu featuring crispy fried chicken sandwiches on your choice of brioche bun or biscuit. At the bar, guests can enjoy craft cocktails, curated by mixologist AJ Johnson, such as an elderflower julep or a sorrel\u2011and\u2011strawberry margarita.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n Hall said she drew inspiration from her grandmother<\/a>, whom she calls the \u201cculinary matriarch\u201d of her family. The former Top Chef <\/em>contestant aims to bring her grandmother\u2019s Southern charm to D.C<\/a>.<\/p>\n \u201cI want them to walk in and feel like, \u2018Wow, this feels like home, and it feels bright and warm. And I feel like this is a place where I want to hang out. I feel like it\u2019s a place where I feel a sense of community and joy,\u201d she says. \u201cI think more than anything, I want people to feel the joy,\u201d the longtime D.C. resident told People.<\/em><\/p>\n Located at 303 Pennsylvania Ave. SE, this quaint eatery showcases Hall\u2019s design vision and features her own paper\u2011quilt art <\/a>inspired by her grandmother. \u201cI thought I had lost my grandmother\u2019s quilt after 20 years,\u201d she said.\u00a0<\/p>\n Hall, after misplacing the heirloom, decided to recreate it using paper.\u00a0After recreating the 9-by-3-foot art installation, Hall found the original quilt.\u00a0<\/p>\n \u201cIt\u2019s more than just showcasing a piece of art; it\u2019s about showing other sides of my creativity,\u201d she said. \u201cAnd also quilts are about community and bringing people together.\u201d<\/p>\n Quilting isn\u2019t the only way that Hall is expanding her artistic wings.
