MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Texas (KTRK) — <\/span>From backyard barbecues to fireworks displays, Fourth of July traditions are on full display across America on her 250th birthday.<\/p>\n While the celebration may only last a few minutes in the sky, officials said the cleanup afterward is just as important.<\/p>\n “Always have your water source nearby, like a garden hose or a bucket of water. When you’re done, douse all your fireworks with water and dispose of them with all the little debris,” Sue Davis, Top Dog Fireworks spokesperson, said.<\/p>\n Officials said improperly discarded fireworks can remain hot long after they appear to be out, creating a hidden fire risk.<\/p>\n “Don’t put them in a garbage can, put a lid on them and stick them in your garage and close the door because they can still be hot and could cause a fire,” Davis said.<\/p>\n That warning also came after the Montgomery County Fire Marshal’s Office shared photos of a truck and house fire Friday evening.<\/p>\n READ FURTHER: Truck catches on fire due to improperly disposed of fireworks: Montgomery Co. Fire Marshal’s Office<\/strong><\/p>\n Officials said residents reported that after discharging fireworks, they placed the debris in the bed of their truck. Investigators said the fireworks later reignited, sparking a fire that spread.<\/p>\n When it comes to safely disposing of used fireworks, fire officials recommend soaking them in a bucket of water for at least 15 minutes.<\/p>\n For unused fireworks, officials recommend soaking the fireworks for at least 12 hours.<\/p>\n After that, seal the debris in a plastic bag to keep it damp, and place the bag away from your home, garage, or other structures.<\/p>\n “Put your fireworks in the garbage can, but just roll the can a few feet down the driveway.
