The search for the next big horror hit from YouTube is moving fast and furious now, as Deadline<\/a> reports yet another massive deal this afternoon. United Artists\u2018 Scott Stuber<\/strong>, Amblin\u2018s Steven Spielberg <\/strong>(Disclosure Day<\/em>),<\/strong> and Amazon MGM Studios have secured the rights to the YouTube horror series, The Mandela Catalogue<\/em><\/strong>, after yet another enormous bidding war. <\/p>\n

Deadline notes that the trio won the film rights to the viral YouTube horror series following a highly competitive bidding war between eleven studios (wowza). <\/p>\n

\u201cLaunched in 2021,\u00a0Mandela Catalogue\u00a0<\/em>is set in the fictional Mandela County, Wisconsin, which is invaded by shape-shifting, nearly immortal creatures called Alternates.\u201d<\/p>\n

Mandela Catalogue<\/em>\u00a0creator, Alex Kister<\/strong>, will direct the film, based on a screenplay he adapted with Tyler Clifton<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Producers are Spielberg and Holly Bario for Amblin Entertainment, alongside Aaron B. Koontz for Paper Street Pictures and Stuber and Nick Nesbitt for United Artists. Also producing are Kister and Clifton. <\/p>\n

The move comes after the incredible success of YouTubers Curry Barker (Obsession<\/em>) and Kane Parsons (The Backrooms<\/em>), both of whom have lit up the industry. Now, Hollywood is scraping the internet in search of the next big hit. We just reported yesterday that Zach Cregger and Brian Duffield are adapting Trevor Henderson\u2019s meme, Siren Head<\/em>, into a feature. <\/p>\n

With Spielberg, one of the greatest filmmakers of all time, in the mix, that search continues to become more and more fascinating. <\/p>\n

Expect a lot more moves like this to come as studios scramble to find the next Obsession<\/em> and Backrooms<\/em>. <\/p>\n
