Paul Dano<\/strong> (pictured above in Prisoners<\/em>) has been cast in Paramount\u2019s remake of Andrzej \u017bu\u0142awski<\/strong>\u2018s cult classic, Possession<\/em><\/strong>, reports Deadline<\/a>. <\/p>\n

The actor joins The Substance<\/em>\u00a0breakout\u00a0Margaret Qualley<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0Callum Turner<\/strong>\u00a0(Green Room, Victor Frankenstein<\/em>). <\/p>\n

Parker Finn<\/strong> (Smile 2<\/em>) will write\/direct the film. <\/p>\n

The original pic follows a woman who begins exhibiting increasingly disturbing behavior after asking her husband for a divorce. Suspicions of infidelity soon give way to something much more sinister.<\/p>\n

Banned upon its original release in 1981, Andrzej \u017bu\u0142awski\u2019s film starred\u00a0Isabelle Adjani<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0Sam Neill<\/strong>. Adjani won Best Actress at the Cannes Film Festival for her performance. To this day, it\u2019s considered to be one of the greatest horror films ever made. It also happens to be one of my favorite films, period. What Zulawski accomplishes with Possession<\/em> is nothing short of brilliant. And Adjani? That performance has only become more legendary over the years, with films like The First Omen<\/em> recently riffing on it. <\/p>\n

Character details on the new film are being kept secret. But, if the new take follows the basics of the original script, I have to wonder if Dano will play the man that Adjani cheats on Neill with. Though I wouldn\u2019t be surprised for Dano to have a more sinister part. We are talking about the guy who shook us in Prisoners<\/em> and played The Riddler in The Batman<\/em>. <\/p>\n

Robert Pattinson<\/strong>\u00a0is producing via his production company Icki Eneo Arlo along with Vertigo Entertainment\u2019s Roy Lee (Weapons<\/em>,\u00a0Crystal Lake<\/em>).<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
