Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday met Seychelles Opposition Leader Bernard Georges during his official visit to the island nation, with the two leaders reaffirming their shared commitment to advancing peace, prosperity and sustainable development.<\/p>\n
PM Modi, who is on a three-day visit to Seychelles, exchanged views with Georges on the strong and enduring partnership between India and Seychelles, according to Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal.<\/p>\n
“They reaffirmed their shared commitment to advancing peace, prosperity and sustainable development in Seychelles,” Jaiswal said in a social media post.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
The meeting came as PM Modi attends the golden jubilee celebrations of Seychelles’ National Day as the Guest of Honour, coinciding with the country’s 50th anniversary of independence and the 50th year of diplomatic relations between India and Seychelles.<\/p>\n
Earlier, the Indian Prime Minister held wide-ranging talks with Seychelles President Patrick Herminie and underscored India’s vision for an Indian Ocean region where maritime security is ensured alongside economic prosperity and where partnerships are guided by mutual respect and trust.<\/p>\n
The prime minister said India and Seychelles agreed that the Indian Ocean is “our shared home” and that its security, sustainability and prosperity are a shared responsibility.<\/p>\n
On the sidelines of the visit, PM Modi also met Mauritian Prime Minister Navinchandra Ramgoolam and reviewed the full spectrum of the India-Mauritius Enhanced Strategic Partnership.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
According to Jaiswal, the two leaders discussed development cooperation, maritime security, trade, capacity building and people-to-people ties, while reaffirming their commitment to advancing cooperation under Vision MAHASAGAR, India’s Neighbourhood First policy and its engagement with the Global South.<\/p>\n
The leaders also exchanged views on regional and global issues of mutual interest, reflecting the growing focus on cooperation and stability across the Indian Ocean region.<\/p>\n
