Prepare. Advocate.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>A. For Haitian TPS holders<\/strong><\/p>\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Stay level-headed. Do not make decisions out of panic<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Community leaders are warning against rash actions based on fear, rumors or coercion by bad-faith actors.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Do NOT:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Stop going to work without understanding your options.<\/li>\n<li>Pull your money out of the bank.<\/li>\n<li>Transfer your money, home, car or other assets to someone else without legal advice that is in your best interest.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cDecisions need to be made level-headed,\u201d Guerline Jozef, executive director of <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/haitianbridgealliance.org\/\">Haitian Bridge Alliance<\/a> advises. Visit their site for the tools, such as letters to employers.<\/p>\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Get the right information<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Avoid misinformation.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Do:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Contact trusted organizations like the Haitian Bridge Alliance.<\/li>\n<li>Attend legal clinics and community Zoom calls.<\/li>\n<li>Speak directly with a licensed immigration attorney.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Do NOT rely on:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>People on TikTok posing as lawyers<\/li>\n<li>Rumors in WhatsApp groups<\/li>\n<li>Fear-based messages and word-of-mouth<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Prepare or review your family exit plan now<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Advocates say preparation is critical.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Ask:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Who will care for your children if you are detained?<\/li>\n<li>Who can manage your rent, bills and business?<\/li>\n<li>Who can help with your medical needs?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Do:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Gather important documents.<\/li>\n<li>Keep IDs, passports and immigration paperwork together.<\/li>\n<li>Identify someone you trust to possibly act as your proxy.<\/li>\n<li>Consider assigning power of attorney.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Important:<\/strong> It must be someone who truly has your best interests at heart.<\/p>\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Share your story<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Advocates say your voice matters.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You can:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Share publicly.<\/li>\n<li>Share anonymously.<\/li>\n<li>Record voice notes.<\/li>\n<li>Tell community organizations your story.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cIf you don\u2019t speak, there will be no one coming to save you,\u201d Jozef says.<\/p>\n<h3 id=\"h-b-for-naturalized-citizens-and-permanent-residents\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong><strong>B. For naturalized citizens and permanent residents\u00a0<\/strong><\/strong><\/h3>\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Call your senators \u2014 and other elected officials too<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Advocates say the immediate goal is passing <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.congress.gov\/bill\/119th-congress\/senate-bill\/4814\"><strong>Senate Bill S4814<\/strong><\/a><strong> <\/strong>to give TPS holders a path to permanent residency or citizenship.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">What to ask:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Support the 3-year TPS extension.<\/li>\n<li>Support long-term immigration protections.<\/li>\n<li>Support permanent residency pathways.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Call local elected officials<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Ask them to:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Contact senators directly.<\/li>\n<li>Publicly support Haitian TPS holders.<\/li>\n<li>Advocate for protections.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Show up beyond symbolism<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Advocates made it clear. Supporting Haiti and Haitians means goes beyond waving the flag during festivities. It means:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Political action<\/li>\n<li>Civic engagement<\/li>\n<li>Protecting Haitian families<\/li>\n<li>Donating money to trusted organizations to support families\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>C. For friends, neighbors, coworkers and employers<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If someone you know is a TPS holder, this fight likely affects you too. To help, advocate for TPS holders to become permanent residents and support credible groups providing direct assistance.\u00a0<\/p>\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Call your senators<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Ask them to support Senate bill S4814. You can learn what to say or write from <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/docs.google.com\/document\/d\/1nfuL5HRK1DDy4ASK9zcYCmMb_Fc-qD7naHePbfwAFa8\/edit?usp=drivesdk\">this toolkit from Faith In Action International <\/a>and <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/docs.google.com\/forms\/u\/1\/d\/e\/1FAIpQLSc3wJb4gdJOMHBOebICLmp3bqaLvThasgJSkPhfnLbx8Y15XA\/viewform\">Haitian Bridge Alliance form<\/a> endorsing the extension of TPS.<\/p>\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Speak out\u00a0<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Use your voice publicly.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Community leaders say silence from employers and business leaders hurts.<\/p>\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Support families with day-to-day needs<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If you are able, try to assist with daily needs, such as:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Childcare<\/li>\n<li>Transportation\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>Legal referrals<\/li>\n<li>Emotional support<\/li>\n<li>Emergency planning help<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Donate your time or money to assist<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If you are able, give money or volunteer with credible organizations.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Many legal, advocacy and service organizations in your area are providing direct assistance to TPS holders. Call or message them for guidance and support.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Donations are critical for these groups to carry out programs such as legal guidance to individuals, local food banks, grocery delivery, gas and more.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>D.
