\n\tMatt Damon is stepping into the studio and behind the mic for\u2026 a rap track?<\/p>\n
\n\tThat\u2019s the premise for a new clip for Water.org, helping to promote the charity\u2019s new \u201cGet Blue\u201d initiative. In a clip posted to Instagram earlier this month, Damon debuts his rap alter ego, \u201cThe Nomad,\u201d to riff on the \u201cconstant struggle\u201d to get water into the homes of those who need it most. The actor-turned-aspiring musician seeks advice from Hit-Boy, the Grammy-winning producer, who questions whether rapping is really the right move for Damon\u2019s altruistic intentions.<\/p>\n
\n\t\u201cIsn\u2019t \u2018Nomad\u2019 just \u2018Damon\u2019 spelled backwards?\u201d Hit-Boy asks, to the chagrin of the embarrassed actor.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n \t<\/span><\/p>\n <\/p>\n \t<\/span><\/p>\n See latest videos, charts and news<\/p>\n \n\tIn person, Damon is anything but embarrassed to promote the Get Blue campaign, no matter what it takes.<\/p>\n \n\t\u201cWe\u2019re always looking for ways to cut through all the noise, and sometimes, humor is a shortcut to get people\u2019s attention,\u201d he tells Billboard<\/em>. \u201cWe\u2019ll try anything, you know?\u201d<\/p>\n \n\tDamon hasn\u2019t had to rap in his career to date, though he notes that, \u201cI sang in The Talented Mr. Ripley<\/em> a long time ago and uh, I sung in Eurotrip<\/em>.\u201d<\/p>\n \n\tAnd while his kids are musically-inclined \u2014 \u201cTaylor [Swift] is a huge influence in our house,\u201d he says. \u201cWe know that catalog pretty well\u201d \u2014 don\u2019t expect to see Damon debuting any official musical endeavors anytime soon. \u201cObviously, Kendrick has nothing to worry about. I\u2019m not gonna become a rapper,\u201d Damon says. \u201cI don\u2019t think that would go well.\u201d<\/p>\n \n\tFor now, Damon\u2019s rap attempt will just live on social media, with the actor also using his studio time in the clip to tell Hit-Boy about the millions of people around the world who still lack access to clean water. With the Get Blue campaign, Water.org is partnering with brands like Gap, Starbucks and Amazon, to launch products that give back. For every purchase of a Get Blue product on the Gap site, on Amazon\u2019s Get Blue storefront (official page coming in July), or a purchase of two specialty drinks on Starbucks (the Iced Blue Coconut Matcha and the Blue Coconut Refresher), the brands will make a donation to Water.org.<\/p>\n \n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tNEW RELEASES\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n \t\t\t\t\tShop Get Blue Products on Gap\t\t<\/p>\n<\/h3>\n \n\t\tThe Gap collection includes blue-colored hoodies, T-shirts, baseball caps and accessories in unisex styles and sizing.\t<\/p>\n \n\tAmazon makes it even easier, with a dedicated Get Blue playlist for inspiration and a host of REDISCOVER playlists on Amazon Music, bringing back popular artists and songs in one place. Amazon says it will donate $1 to Water.org every time someone plays a participating artist\u2019s REDISCOVER playlist. The exact list of artists will be announced in July. <\/p>\n \t\t\t\t\tAmazon Echo Dot (newest model) \t\t<\/p>\n<\/h3>\n \n\t\tAn even easier way to make a difference: customers with an Alexa-enabled device can say, \u201cAlexa, donate to Get Blue\u201d and Amazon will contribute $5 on their behalf.\t<\/p>\n \n\tWhile much movement has been made to increase access to water and improve safe drinking conditions around the world, Damon notes that more than two billion people still lack access to safe water \u2014 that\u2019s one in four people globally.<\/p>\n \n\t\u201cIt\u2019s so hard for us to relate to growing up here,\u201d Damon says. \u201cYou\u2019re only a few steps away from a clean drink of water, whereas if you think about AIDS or cancer or things like that, usually there\u2019s an emotional connection for somebody. You\u2019re never very many degrees removed from somebody who\u2019s struggling with that, whether it\u2019s a family member or a friend.\u201d<\/p>\n \t\t\t\t\tGet Blue Logo Baseball Hat\t\t<\/p>\n<\/h3>\n \n\t\t\u201cWhat this [campaign] does,\u201d he explains, \u201cis it raises the awareness, and then hopefully, we can start this larger cultural conversation, and it\u2019ll stay at the front of people\u2019s minds.\u201d\t<\/p>\n \n\tThe Get Blue campaign continues the work that Gary White has been doing for decades, as the CEO and co-founder of Water.org. The charity works with local partners on the ground to offer small, affordable loans so families can get the pipes, pumps, or plumbing they need to serve safe drinking water at home. Education is also an important of their advocacy, with White noting that many young children in developing countries can\u2019t attend school, because they are in charge of water collection for their families.<\/p>\n \n\t\u201cSo many people around the world, when they wake up tonight, they don\u2019t know where they\u2019re going to get their water, and they have to spend time and sometimes money just to get it,\u201d White tells Billboard<\/em>. \u201cAnd with Water.org, we\u2019ve pioneered some really innovative ways to kind of close that gap,\u201d he says, noting the organization\u2019s work in everything from building wells to facilitating clean sanitation.<\/p>\n \n\t\u201cBut what we also realize is we need to bring in a wider audience,\u201d White adds. \u201cIt\u2019s critically important that we have these partners who have a platform, who have a voice, who know how to connect through cool shirts or music, because that\u2019s where people live.\u201d<\/p>\n \n\tWhite\u2019s goal for the campaign and for his organization: \u201cWe\u2019ve reached over 90 million people with our water programs and I think in the next four years, we can reach another 100 million.\u201d<\/p>\n \t\t\t\t\tStarbucks Physical Gift Cards (Multipack of 4 x $10) \t\t<\/p>\n<\/h3>\n \n\t\tWhether you\u2019re ordering a fancy \u201cblue\u201d Starbucks drink or picking up a T-shirt at Gap, Damon says the Get Blue campaign makes it easier than ever to make a difference. \t<\/p>\n \n\t\u201cWhen I was growing up, on our refrigerator, my mother had this quote from Gandhi, and it said, \u2018No matter how insignificant what you do may seem, it is most important that you do it,’\u201d he says. \u201cAnd I\u2019ve always thought about that. I think the problems of the world can feel overwhelming,\u201d he continues, \u201cbut if everybody does their part, what you\u2019re doing is not insignificant, because\u00a0you\u2019re going to save somebody\u2019s life. You\u2019re going to completely change the outcome of their life.
