target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/cerf.un.org\/\">Central Emergency Response Fund<\/a> (<a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/cerf.un.org\/\">CERF<\/a>),\u00a0on Thursday.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>It\u00a0will support strengthening surveillance, laboratory capacity, case management,\u00a0and infection prevention and control in Burundi and South Sudan, both of which are at risk of cross-border transmission.\u00a0<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Step up funding<\/strong>\u00a0<\/h2>\n<p>UN agencies and humanitarian partners continue to respond to the outbreak inside the DRC, where more than 51,000 people have received food\u00a0assistance\u00a0since the outbreak was declared\u00a0and containment measures have disrupted trade, reduced food availability and driven up prices in affected areas.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Even as support from the <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.who.int\/en\/\">WHO<\/a> and the Africa Centres for Disease Control (CDC)\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/media.un.org\/unifeed\/en\/asset\/d359\/d3595913\" data-mce-href=\"https:\/\/media.un.org\/unifeed\/en\/asset\/d359\/d3595913\">has increased laboratory capacity<\/a>, the UN reiterated its call on Thursday for donors to increase support so that humanitarians can continue to provide life-saving\u00a0assistance.\u00a0<\/p>\n<h2><strong>UNICEF mourns five children killed in Yemen<\/strong>\u00a0<\/h2>\n<p>The UN child rights agency\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.unicef.org\/\">UNICEF<\/a>\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.unicef.org\/yemen\/press-releases\/statement-unicef-yemen-killing-and-injury-children-explosive-ordnance\" data-mce-href=\"https:\/\/www.unicef.org\/yemen\/press-releases\/statement-unicef-yemen-killing-and-injury-children-explosive-ordnance\">expressed condolences<\/a>\u00a0on\u00a0Thursday after five children were killed and seven others injured by an explosive ordnance in the village of\u00a0Raybi\u00a0in Yemen.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNo child should ever lose their life, suffer injury, or live in fear because of the deadly remnants of conflict,\u201d the agency wrote in a statement.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The incident serves as a reminder that children displaced by conflicts face increased risk from landmines, unexploded\u00a0ordnance\u00a0and other explosive remnants of war, according to UNICEF.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>In response,\u00a0the agency\u00a0is calling for stronger efforts to protect children from explosives, faster removal of explosive remnants of war, expanded mine-risk\u00a0education\u00a0and sustained support for survivors and their families.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEvery child deserves to grow up safe from harm,\u201d\u00a0the statement said.\u00a0<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Secretary-General applauds Colombia for elections<\/strong>\u00a0<\/h2>\n<p>UN\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.un.org\/sg\/\">Secretary-General Ant\u00f3nio Guterres<\/a>\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" la\u00a0Espriella\u00a0on Wednesday, following a contentious election whose results were initially disputed by incumbent President Gustavo Petro.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>UN ready to work with incoming administration<\/strong>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>In his statement, the Secretary-General welcomed the strong voter participation in the second round of the elections and acknowledged authorities\u2019 efforts to ensure a secure and orderly process.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>He added that the UN is ready to work with the incoming president to continue supporting nationally led efforts to support peace, security, sustainable\u00a0development\u00a0and prosperity for the Colombian people.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Secretary-General\u202fhopes that\u202fall political actors will work together to further build trust\u202facross the country,\u201d\u00a0UN Spokesperson\u00a0St\u00e9phane Dujarric\u00a0said\u00a0on\u00a0Thursday\u00a0in New York.\u00a0<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Japan campaign seeks to turn climate \u2018silent majority\u2019 into a collective voice<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>A new campaign in Japan launched by the United Nations Information Centre (UNIC) Tokyo and 136 local media partners aims to transform widespread public support for stronger climate action into a more visible and influential movement.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The initiative builds on global survey findings showing that nearly 89 per cent of people want their governments to take more ambitious climate measures, but many mistakenly believe they are in the minority.<\/p>\n<p>Running from 25 June through the end of 2026, the project &#8211; <em><strong>I am one of the 89% who want to stop global warming<\/strong><\/em> &#8211; will amplify messages from public figures and people across Japanese society through social media,
