Guillermo del Toro is an auteur creator with an enviable filmography filled with a variety of impressive efforts. He dazzled movie lovers with his endless imagination and uncompromising creative brilliance in the heartbreaking Pan\u2019s<\/strong><\/em> Labyrinth<\/strong><\/em> and delivered a feast for the senses with The Shape of Water<\/strong><\/em>. Each of these celebrated efforts even took home multiple Academy Awards. <\/p>\n We\u2019re not here today to talk about the director\u2019s more universally celebrated fare, however. We\u2019re instead setting out to champion an engaging spectacle of a film that remains somewhat underrated amongst the immensely talented creator\u2019s oeuvre. A kaiju feature that sometimes gets lost in the shuffle, yet still very much deserves recognition as an epic endeavor. <\/p>\n We\u2019re talking about Pacific Rim<\/strong><\/em>, a grandiose film with a lot of heart that juxtaposes giant monster action alongside giant robot action. Could you really ask for more? <\/p>\n Long ago, legions of monstrous creatures called Kaiju arose from the sea, bringing with them all-consuming war. To fight the Kaiju, mankind developed giant robots called Jaegers, designed to be piloted by two humans locked together in a neural bridge. However, even the Jaegers are not enough to defeat the Kaiju, and humanity is on the verge of defeat. Mankind\u2019s last hope now lies with a couple of unlikely heroes<\/em>. <\/p>\n Although the flick remains somewhat underrated in comparison to some of del Toro\u2019s other pictures, it still has its share of supporters.
