World shares his thoughts on Black Owned Businesses both in history and current day.<\/span><\/p>\n<p id=\"viewer-d31g7\" class=\"mm8Nw _1j-51 roLFQS _1FoOD _3M0Fe Z63qyL roLFQS public-DraftStyleDefault-block-depth0 fixed-tab-size public-DraftStyleDefault-text-ltr\"><span class=\"_2PHJq public-DraftStyleDefault-ltr\"><em>The U.S. is home to roughly 2.5 million Black-owned businesses, according to the Census Bureau. Some good southern comfort food will always help you get on with your day. But this isn\u2019t just about local establishments but about black owned business nationwide.<\/em><\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<div id=\"viewer-56odk\" class=\"_2vd5k b6lcWf\">\n<div class=\"_17-_F vsUsHN vsUsHN _3vo3y zOjvSU zOjvSU\">\n<div class=\"_2kEVY\" tabindex=\"0\" role=\"button\" data-hook=\"imageViewer\">\n<div id=\"new-image426\" class=\"_3WJnn _2i-Gt _2Ybje\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/static.wixstatic.com\/media\/37e6dc_e41bceb5cebe4ade9dcc8fdc5fb5605a~mv2.jpg\/v1\/fill\/w_360,h_270,al_c,lg_1,q_80,enc_auto\/37e6dc_e41bceb5cebe4ade9dcc8fdc5fb5605a~mv2.jpg\" alt=\"\" data-pin-url=\"https:\/\/ralphcelestinpr.wixsite.com\/mysite\/post\/air-raids-across-syria\" data-pin-media=\"https:\/\/static.wixstatic.com\/media\/37e6dc_e41bceb5cebe4ade9dcc8fdc5fb5605a~mv2.jpg\/v1\/fit\/w_300%2Ch_225%2Cal_c%2Cq_80,enc_auto\/file.jpg\" data-load-done=\"\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"\">Originated in the days of slavery before 1865. Emancipation and civil rights permitted businessmen to operate inside the American legal structure starting in the <a class=\"_3Bkfb _1lsz7\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Reconstruction_era\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-hook=\"linkViewer\">Reconstruction Era<\/a> (1863\u201377) and afterwards. By the 1890s, thousands of small business operations had opened in urban areas. The most rapid growth came in the early 20th century, as the increasingly rigid <a class=\"_3Bkfb _1lsz7\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Jim_Crow_laws\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-hook=\"linkViewer\">Jim Crow<\/a> system of segregation moved urban Blacks into a community large enough to support a business establishment. The <a class=\"_3Bkfb _1lsz7\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/National_Negro_Business_League\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-hook=\"linkViewer\">National Negro Business League<\/a>\u2014which <a class=\"_3Bkfb _1lsz7\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Booker_T._Washington\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-hook=\"linkViewer\">Booker T. Washington<\/a>, college president, promoted\u2014opened over 600 chapters. It reached every city with a significant Black population.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div data-hook=\"rcv-block13\"><\/div>\n<div id=\"viewer-4gvd2\" class=\"_2vd5k b6lcWf\">\n<div class=\"_3VL_9 VgmBGL VgmBGL _3vo3y zOjvSU zOjvSU\">\n<div class=\"_2kEVY\" tabindex=\"0\" role=\"button\" data-hook=\"imageViewer\">\n<div id=\"new-image427\" class=\"_3WJnn _2i-Gt _2Ybje\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/static.wixstatic.com\/media\/37e6dc_d5a448515d4942ffb2b2955fc764ed75~mv2.jpg\/v1\/fill\/w_360,h_245,al_c,lg_1,q_80,enc_auto\/37e6dc_d5a448515d4942ffb2b2955fc764ed75~mv2.jpg\" alt=\"\" data-pin-url=\"https:\/\/ralphcelestinpr.wixsite.com\/mysite\/post\/air-raids-across-syria\" data-pin-media=\"https:\/\/static.wixstatic.com\/media\/37e6dc_d5a448515d4942ffb2b2955fc764ed75~mv2.jpg\/v1\/fit\/w_300%2Ch_204%2Cal_c%2Cq_80,enc_auto\/file.jpg\" data-load-done=\"\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p id=\"viewer-fgicu\" class=\"mm8Nw _1j-51 roLFQS _1FoOD _3M0Fe Z63qyL roLFQS public-DraftStyleDefault-block-depth0 fixed-tab-size public-DraftStyleDefault-text-ltr\"><span class=\"_2PHJq public-DraftStyleDefault-ltr\"><a class=\"_3Bkfb _1lsz7\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/African_Americans\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-hook=\"linkViewer\">African Americans<\/a> have operated virtually every kind of company, but some of the most prominent Black-owned businesses have been <a class=\"_3Bkfb _1lsz7\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/North_Carolina_Mutual_Life_Insurance_Company\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-hook=\"linkViewer\">insurance companies<\/a>, banks, <a class=\"_3Bkfb _1lsz7\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Motown\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-hook=\"linkViewer\">recording labels<\/a>, funeral parlors, barber shops, beauty salons, restaurants, <a class=\"_3Bkfb _1lsz7\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Soul_food\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-hook=\"linkViewer\">soul food<\/a> restaurants, record stores, and <a class=\"_3Bkfb _1lsz7\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/African-American_bookstores\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-hook=\"linkViewer\">bookstores<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote id=\"viewer-ejt4n\" class=\"_3cMZT _3Dd1B YUJc6d _1FoOD _3M0Fe Z63qyL roLFQS public-DraftStyleDefault-block-depth0 fixed-tab-size public-DraftStyleDefault-text-ltr\"><p><span class=\"_2PHJq public-DraftStyleDefault-ltr\"><em>I never take the title of CEO &amp; President of a Black Owned Business lightly. The idea of starting a business and making money on your own terms as a black person was not well received and there is no greater example of the cost and risk black people took on than that of the events that transpired in Tusla, Oklahoma. A thriving and bustling black wallstreet was burnt to the ground along with the dreams and lives that made it all possible.&#8221;<\/em><\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p id=\"viewer-4h81i\" class=\"mm8Nw _1j-51 roLFQS _1FoOD _3M0Fe Z63qyL roLFQS public-DraftStyleDefault-block-depth0 fixed-tab-size public-DraftStyleDefault-text-ltr\"><span class=\"_2PHJq public-DraftStyleDefault-ltr\">The <strong>Tulsa race massacre<\/strong> (known alternatively as the <strong>Tulsa race riot<\/strong>, the <strong>Greenwood Massacre<\/strong>, the <strong>Black Wall Street Massacre<\/strong>, the <strong>Tulsa pogrom<\/strong>, or the <strong>Tulsa Massacre<\/strong>) took place on May 31 and June 1, 1921, when mobs of white residents, many of them deputized and given weapons by city officials, attacked black residents and businesses of the <a class=\"_3Bkfb _1lsz7\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Greenwood_District,_Tulsa\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-hook=\"linkViewer\">Greenwood District<\/a> in <a class=\"_3Bkfb _1lsz7\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Tulsa,_Oklahoma\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-hook=\"linkViewer\">Tulsa, Oklahoma<\/a>. It has been called \u201cthe single worst incident of <a class=\"_3Bkfb _1lsz7\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Mass_racial_violence_in_the_United_States\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-hook=\"linkViewer\">racial violence in American history<\/a>. The attack, carried out on the ground and from private aircraft, destroyed more than 35 square blocks of the district\u2014at that time the wealthiest black community in the United States, known as \u201cBlack Wall Street.<\/span><\/p>\n<p id=\"viewer-79mga\" class=\"mm8Nw _1j-51 roLFQS _1FoOD _3M0Fe Z63qyL roLFQS public-DraftStyleDefault-block-depth0 fixed-tab-size public-DraftStyleDefault-text-ltr\"><span class=\"_2PHJq public-DraftStyleDefault-ltr\">More than 800 people were admitted to hospitals, and as many as 6,000 black residents were interned in large facilities, many of them for several days. The Oklahoma Bureau of Vital Statistics officially recorded 36 dead. A <a class=\"_3Bkfb _1lsz7\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Tulsa_Reparations_Coalition\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-hook=\"linkViewer\">2001 state commission<\/a> examination of events was able to confirm 39 dead, 26 black and 13 white, based on contemporary autopsy reports, death certificates and other records. The commission gave several estimates ranging from 75 to 300 dead.<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote id=\"viewer-5si1\" class=\"_3cMZT _3Dd1B YUJc6d _1FoOD _3M0Fe Z63qyL roLFQS public-DraftStyleDefault-block-depth0 fixed-tab-size public-DraftStyleDefault-text-ltr\"><p><span class=\"_2PHJq public-DraftStyleDefault-ltr\"><em>Black Owned Businesses have a history cemented with both great milestones and unfathomable hardships.
