Armiger Entertainment Opens Kickstarter Page for New Tenchi Muyo! Anime Project

Armiger Entertainment has opened a Kickstarter page to fund a pilot for a new Tenchi Muyo! anime project titled Tenchi Galaxy. The Kickstarter campaign has not yet been launched, as of the time of writing.

Actress Petrea Burchard, who voiced one of the series main heroines Ryoko Hakubi in the anime’s English dub, narrates a prelaunch trailer for the project that was released earlier this week.

The prelaunch trailer also confirmed the involvement of Hiroshi Negishi (Ai Tenchi Muyo! director, Tenchi Muyo GXP Paradise Starting chief director) as the director of the Tenchi Galaxy pilot and AIC’s Toru Miura as a producer. Negishi previously directed the Tenchi Muyo! TV anime series Tenchi Universe, which ran for 26 total episodes from April 1995 to September 1995.

In the trailer, Burchard details the project’s reward tiers that will include a digital download, a physical Blu-ray, a SteelBook design release, and more. Adds-ons will consist of sticker sheets, posters, patches, art book, vinyl record, and a special VHS format release of the pilot.

Additionally, Armiger Entertainment will work with Negishi and Miura to develop a potential anime series if the campaign is successful (which the trailer lists with a tentative 2028 date).

The English dub voice actors from previous Tenchi Muyo! anime installments are also returning to reprise their roles, with the exception of Jennifer Darling, who voiced Ayeka in past English dubs and will be replaced by Cristina Vee.

The English dub cast includes:

  • • Matt K. Miller as Tenchi
  • • Petrea Burchard as Ryoko
  • • Rebecca Forstadt as Mihoshi
  • • Sherry Lynn as Detective Kiyone and Sasami
  • • Julia Fletcher as Nagi
  • • K.T. Vogt as Washu
  • • Debi Derryberry as Ryo-Ohki

Tenchi Galaxy is described as a “spiritual sequel” to Tenchi Universe and its main premise is described as:

Tenchi Galaxy follows the Tenchi gang as they travel to the planet of the space pirates, MIKUNI, in search of an artifact that was stolen from Jurai. In order to get it back, they must face NIIMI, the queen of the space pirates. What dangers await them? What connection does Niimi have to Ryoko? And whose side is Nagi on?

Armiger Entertainment previously ran a Kickstarter campaign to release an omnibus collection of the Tenchi Muyo! comic series in April 2025.

The Tenchi Muyo! franchise was created by Masaki Kajishima and has spawned multiple TV anime installments taking place in different continuities, as well as anime films, manga, novels, video games, and a stage play.

The series began with the first Tenchi Muyo! Ryo-Ohki OVA series that had six episodes released in Japan between 1992-1993. It was followed by four more OVA anime series that were released between 1994 to 1995, 2003 to 2005, 2016 to 2017, and 2020 to 2021. Crunchyroll streamed the recent fourth and fifth OVA installments.

The TV anime series of Tenchi Muyo! include Tenchi Universe, the 1997 series Tenchi in Tokyo, the 2002 series Tenchi Muyo! GXP, and the 2014 short series Ai Tenchi Muyo! A sequel OVA series to Tenchi Muyo! GXP, titled Tenchi Muyo GXP Paradise Starting, was released in 2023.

The Tenchi Universe continuity of the franchise also inspired three anime films in 1996, 1997, and 1999.

Several spinoff titles were also released, including Magical Girl Pretty Sammy, Magical Project S, Sasami: Magical Girls Club, and the OVA series Tenchi Muyo! War on Geminar.
