CURRY BARKER’S “OBSESSION” CONTINUES TO SHATTER BOX-OFFICE RECORDS

Obsession continues to prove unstoppable at the box-office.

This past weekend, the surprise hit continued to pull in the bucks, bringing its worldwide box-office total to $374 million.

This means Obsession has broken several more box-office records, adding to its already impressive roster.

First of all, the movie has surpassed Ryan Coogler’s Sinners, to become the highest-grossing non-animated original film of the past decade.

On top of that, Obsession made a record of its own, as it is now the only genre film in history to remain in the box-office top ten for over 40 consecutive days.

In the face of massive competition from Toy Story 5, Supergirl, Disclosure Day, and Scary Movie, the film held strong for six weeks. Obsession has consistently made money week-to-week, despite never claiming the top spot at the box-office.

The movie has also surpassed The Exorcist at the domestic box-office, cementing its legacy as one of the highest grossing horror movies of all time.

As it stands, Barker’s film has made almost 400 times its reported budget of $900,000.

Obsession will remain in wide release, despite the movie being made available to rent and buy at home this past week.

Given this enormous success, will we see a sequel? Filmmaker Curry Barker has openly stated he has “an idea,” but is in no rush to capitalise on Obsession’s success.

Who can blame him? Barker is currently busy finishing off Anything but Ghosts, and will then reinvent the Texas Chain Saw franchise for A24. After that, Barker will craft a new original genre film for Blumhouse and Universal… So it’s safe to say he’s very busy.

We’ll let you know if Barker gets a spare moment to think about Obsession 2. Will a sequel break records too?
