CURRY BARKER SIGNS TO CREATE NEW ORIGINAL MOVIE FOR BLUMHOUSE AND UNIVERSAL

Posted on: June 29th, 2026

2026 will undoubtedly be one for the horror history books due to the rapid rise of Curry Barker.

First, the young filmmaker brought us Obsession, his debut feature film. Made for a meagre $900,000, the film is currently sitting pretty with over $300 million at the box-office.

Barker is also currently busy on his second original feature Anything but Ghosts, expected next year.

On top of that, Barker was selected by Roy Lee and A24 to helm the highly-anticipated feature reboot of The Texas Chain Saw Massacre.

So, what could Barker possibly fit in to his busy schedule next? Well, how about another original feature?

Official sources are reporting that Barker has signed a “rich” deal, said to be eight figures, with Blumhouse, Atomic Monster, and Universal.

The deal is for an unspecified original horror movie that Barker has been gestating for some time. The lucrative deal was born purely from a “dynamic” pitch Barker delivered to the Universal studio heads.

Of his latest venture, Barker said in a statement:
“This film is something I’ve been excited to make for a while, and I’m thrilled to be reteaming with Blumhouse Atomic Monster and Universal Film Group for it. They’ve built the kind of home for bold, original storytelling that every filmmaker dreams of, and I couldn’t imagine better collaborators for this film.”

Producers Jason Blum and James Wan added:
“With Obsession, Curry did what only a handful of filmmakers manage in a generation: he made something wholly original that connected with a massive audience, and that connection is what we care about most. The best filmmakers can work anywhere, and we are proud to have a growing slate with Curry. Getting to put this project in front of the fans his work speaks to is the whole reason we do this.”

We’re looking forward to seeing what Barker will cook up next. We’ll bring you all further developments on the project as soon as we can.
